15 minutes a day beats 2 hours on Sunday
Why short daily puzzle practice makes children improve faster.
Learning scientists call it spaced practice: seeing something a little every day beats seeing it a lot once. Chess patterns (forks, pins, back-rank mates) stick when the brain meets them again and again.
A simple routine
- Same time every day, for example right after dinner.
- 5 to 10 puzzles, one theme at a time (this week: forks).
- If a puzzle is hard, spend two minutes, then look at the answer and ask why the move works. That counts as learning.
- Keep a streak. A calendar with ticks is a strong motivator for children.
After a month the child will start spotting tactics in their own games. That is when ratings begin to move.
Chess Castles has unlimited puzzles, 17 themes, and a streak counter that reminds your child every day.
